This Jeep Cherokee, believed to be a 1987 model, served the department as a Chief’s vehicle during the mid-1990s. The vehicle provided the Chief with a dedicated means of responding to emergency incidents and other department activities.
Configured for command response, the Cherokee allowed the Chief to respond directly to incidents, conduct scene size-ups, and coordinate initial operations.
The Cherokee remained in service until it was replaced by the department’s new Command 1, a 1994 Ford Bronco. It represents one of the department’s earlier dedicated Chief’s vehicles and an important step in the evolution of the department’s command fleet.
