Worcester Co., MD - On September 17, 2026, the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company, with assistance from the Stockton Vol. Fire Company and Snow Hill Volunteer Fire Company Inc, conducted a controlled burn at the Cellar House Farm near Whitesburg Road.
The old two-story barn was burned at the request of the homeowner after sustaining damage during a previous storm.
Engine 102 established a draft from the nearby river and supplied water to Tanker 1 and Brush 1. Brush 2 established a second draft from a pond on the property to provide protection for exposures near the barn. Snow Hill personnel assisted on scene with exposure protection on the field side of the barn and also provided a standby engine. Multiple handlines were placed in service throughout the operation.
Live-fire training opportunities such as this allow experienced members to remain proficient in their skills while providing valuable hands-on training for our cadets and newer members.
And despite legends that the Cellar House Farm may be haunted, we’re happy to report that no ghosts were encountered during the operation.
Thank you to our members and our neighboring companies from Stockton and Snow Hill for their assistance, cooperation, and teamwork in making this training opportunity a success.
