Apparatus

Ambulance A-1 (1970s)

c. 1974–1976 Chevrolet C-30 / Horton Type I Ambulance

This ambulance was built on a Chevrolet C-Series chassis, most likely a C-30, and fitted with a Type I modular ambulance body likely manufactured by Horton. The truck-cab design, combined with the early modular body and roof-mounted emergency warning equipment, reflects standard ambulance construction and EMS practices of the mid-1970s.

At the time, ambulance services were provided by the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company, with the unit supporting emergency medical response for the City of Pocomoke and surrounding areas. While the exact year of manufacture and specific service dates are unknown, photographic evidence places this ambulance in service during the mid-1970s, representing an important transitional period in the evolution of fire-based EMS operations in Pocomoke.
