Ambulance A-1 & A-2 (1980s)

Ambulances A-1 and A-2 (Early 1980s)

During the early 1980s, the department operated multiple ambulances, designated A-1 and A-2, both finished in a blue and white color scheme. These units supported the department’s emergency medical response during a period when EMS services were continuing to evolve locally and regionally.

  • Ambulance A-2 (closer unit in photographs) was a Class C ambulance built on a Ford chassis.

  • Ambulance A-1 (last unit in photographs) was a Class A ambulance built on a Chevrolet chassis.

While the exact in-service dates, specifications, and duration of service for both ambulances are not currently known, their presence confirms an active EMS capability during the early 1980s.

At this time, individual photographs of each ambulance are not available. However, both units are visible in a known group photograph, which provides the primary visual documentation of their service with the department.

Ambulances A-1 and A-2 represent an important chapter in the department’s EMS history, reflecting the growing role of emergency medical services and the department’s commitment to providing comprehensive emergency care to the community during that era.
