On 11/25/18 at 10:36 pm Pocomoke, Stockton, Snow Hill and New Church fire companies responded to a reported house fire in the 500 block of Bonneville Ave. Chief Gladding arrived on location and found a 2 story home fully involved. Engine 102 arrived and secured a water supply while crews were able to advance a hose line and make an aggressive interior attack in an attempt to knock the fire. With heavy fire conditions in the attic, coupled with deteriorating conditions on the second floor, crews were forced to make an emergency evacuation and switch to a defensive attack for safety reasons. Crews were able to make an additional interior entry and get the fire under control. Units were able to perform overhaul and extinguish any remaining hotspots.
The power-lines to the house became dislodged shortly before units arrived creating an additional hazard. The power-lines fell in the roadway in front of the house and remained live until Delmarva Power was able to secure the power. No injuries were reported. Girdletree Fire Company provided a cover engine and Pocomoke EMS provided a standby unit while crews operated. This incident is being investigated by the Worcester County Fire Marshall’s Office. Before units could fully clear this incident, Pocomoke was alerted for a second residential structure fire in the district. Units were able to clear and immediately respond.
