Fire Prevention Program at Pocomoke Elementary School
Friday, October 4, 2019
On Friday October 4th, the PCVFC in conjunction with Pocomoke Elementary School participated in fire prevention activities for national fire prevention week. Every year the PCVFC visits local schools and childcare centers and provides children with critical fire safety information, hands on exercises, and demonstrations. Thanks to the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office the PCVFC is able to utilize their fire prevention trailer which provides a simulated home based environment to review safety tips with children.
Some topics include: testing smoke detectors and changing batteries, calling 911, candle and cooking safety, stop drop and roll, knowing your escape route and meeting place, and how to get low and go under smoke. Second and third grade students also got an overview of carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers as well as instruction in how they work. Also pictured are students from each grade who won the annual fire prevention poster contest. Congratulations to this year’s winners! We’d like to thank PES and our members for their continued support and the opportunity to share our message each year with the students!
