Firefighter Awarded for 60 years of service.
Saturday, January 25, 2025
Firefighter Bobby Ayres joined the Pocomoke City Vol. Fire Company in June of 1964. He has been an active firefighter for over six decades, dedicating countless hours to the department and community. During his time in the department, he has served two terms as President, two terms as Vice-President, and 4 terms as Chief Engineer. Mr. Bobby was the recipient of the PCVFC Belt Buckle Award in 1980, Firefighter of the Year in 2018, and has received the Top Responder Award for the past 9 years in a row! His love and dedication to the fire service is second to none.
Mr. Bobby’s passion is the department's 1923 American LaFrance Pumper. The fire company relied on Mr. Bobby to maintain its first motorized engine, which he kept in top working condition. He has spent countless hours maintaining and restoring different parts of the 23. He also serves as our primary driver for parades and special events. In 2023, he had the privilege of pumping the 23 at its 100-year anniversary. Our department would not be what it is today if it was not for Mr. Bobby. He exemplifies what it is to be a firefighter and public servant. We would like to recognize and thank our department's senior driver, 1923 expert, and outgoing Chief Engineer for his years of dedication.
To show our appreciation and ensure his legacy is ingrained in our department’s history, Mr. Ayres was presented with a digital painting, which will be hung in the firehouse along with its sister painting of Mr. George Mariner and the 23.
Mr. Bobby, the officers and members of the Pocomoke City Volunteer Fire Company would like to say THANK YOU for your years of service. Congratulations on 60 years!
