PCVFC Responds to Structure Fire With Trapped Occupant
Sunday, December 28, 2025

On 12/28/25 at 1:41 PM, the Pocomoke City Vol. Fire Co., along with mutual aid companies, were alerted for a residential structure fire with a reported victim trapped on the second floor. Pocomoke City Emergency Medical Services arrived first and found a 2-story house with smoke showing from one side. A Pocomoke City Police Officer, EMS Clinician, and Volunteer Firefighter were able to rescue the occupant prior to the fire department’s arrival. Due to the circumstances, the EMS crew requested aviation to transport the patient. The crew from Engine 102 quickly extinguished the fire. The crew from Tower 1 searched the residence and found no other occupants. Chief E. Denston had command of the structure fire.
Simultaneously, an aviation landing zone was established at Newtowne Park. Rescue 2 responded to assist with the landing zone along with Utility 181, Command 1-2, and fire police units. Groton Rd. was briefly closed while the helicopter landed and was on the ground. Maryland State Police Trooper 4 transported one patient to Johns Hopkins Bayview Burn Center. Lt. T. Cowger had command of the landing zone.
Due to the criminal investigation, please contact the Worcester County Fire Marshal’s Office with any additional questions.
