Engine 103 (1980s)
Friday, January 1, 1988
Former Engine 103 was a fire-suppression engine that supported structural firefighting and water-supply operations. In the later years, it was used as a blocking unit for motor vehicle crashes. The apparatus was equipped with a 1,250 GPM fire pump and a 750-gallon water tank, providing dependable fire flow for initial attack and sustained suppression efforts.
Engine 103 was configured to carry four firefighters, one officer, and one engineer, ensuring an effective crew for fireground operations. The apparatus featured a top-mounted pump panel, allowing the engineer to operate the pump from the top of the engine rather than from the roadway or ground level, enhancing visibility and safety during pumping operations.
The engine carried a versatile hose complement, including two 1¾-inch crosslays, a front bumper handline, and both 3-inch and 5-inch supply lines, enabling crews to quickly adapt to a variety of fire suppression scenarios.
Former Engine 103 was removed from active service in late 2024. It was donated to Worcester County in December 2025, where it is being used for training at the Worcester County Fire Training Center.
