Line of Duty Death

Since the department's organization in 1888, the PCVFC has only suffered one Line of Duty Death (LODD). On March 25, 2017, Firefighter/Paramedic Jacob Andrew Howser was tragically killed in a single-vehicle crash on his way to paramedic class. Howser joined the PCVFC on June 30, 2009 as a cadet and became a full member in 2011. Howser completed Firefighter I and II in 2013. Howser was dedicated to helping others and worked as an EMT for several local departments. Howser was awarded his Maryland EMT-Paramedic license posthumously. Howser’s number, 59 was retired by the PCVFC following his death. His name was later added to the Maryland Fire-Rescue Services Memorial in Annapolis, Maryland. A scholarship was set up in Jacob’s memory and is open to graduating students who are interested in Fire, EMS, Nursing, or Exercise Science.
