Eighth Street House Fire
Saturday, December 9, 2017

On Sunday December 10, 2017 around 5:19 am a Fire Box was alerted for a residential structure fire at 107 Eighth Street in Pocomoke City.  Stations 100 (Pocomoke) 200 (Stockton) 400 (Snow Hill) and VA1 (New Church) were alerted.  Initial report was law enforcement had located a spot of carpet on fire in the unoccupied residence.  Initial Crew from Engine 102 entered the structure and located the burned carpet.  During the primary search crews located a smoldering fire in a bathroom directly across from the burned carpet.  The door was closed which contained the fire and caused it to be reduced to smoldering coals before the fire could extend past the bathroom.

This fire is a perfect example of the recent Fire Prevention emphasis on keeping doors closed while you're sleeping!  This small lightweight door held the fire to the room of origin and prevented further damage to the residence.  The fire is being investigated by the Worcester County Fire Marshal's Office
